While Daniel Mercadante is primarily known for his work in filmmaking, often collaborating with his wife Katina as The Mercadantes, this foray into still imagery was a welcomed challenge. He shared his thoughts, saying, “After so many years focused on the moving image, I’ve struggled with singularly caught moments in still imagery—so I love how this project still requires images to be captured over 15 seconds to 1 minute, so in some way, they require the same passages of time that a shot in one of our short films might.”
So far, Mercadante’s enchanting rainbow roads have graced the landscapes of the Connecticut countryside and Guatemala. The artist aspires to continue this captivating series in various locations across the world, promising more dreamlike journeys along neon trails that beckon us to revisit the vivid dreams of our childhood fantasies.
