Ukraine Attacks Russian Oil Port in Crimea
Ukraine Attacks Major Oil Port in Crimea to Disrupt Russian Revenue
Ukraine announced that its military forces successfully attacked a major oil port on the Crimean Peninsula, in an effort to weaken Russia’s financial resources.
“An overnight strike was successfully carried out on the enemy’s offshore oil port in Feodosia, Crimea,” the Ukrainian military stated on October 7 via social media.
“The Feodosia oil port is the largest in Crimea for transshipping oil products, used to meet the needs of the Russian military and other purposes,” the Ukrainian military added, confirming that such attacks would continue in the future.
On the same day, Crimean authorities reported a fire at an oil facility in Feodosia, with no casualties. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had shot down 12 Ukrainian attack drones over the peninsula during the night.
Russia has controlled the Crimean Peninsula since 2014, a situation that Kyiv opposes and remains determined to reverse.
In recent months, Kyiv has ramped up attacks on Russia’s energy sector, aiming to damage the revenue streams Moscow uses to fund its military campaign in Ukraine. Ukraine insists that these strikes are fair retaliation for Russia’s attacks on its energy infrastructure, which have left millions in darkness due to power outages.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its forces had gained control of the village of Grodivka in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine, near the strategic and vital logistics hub of Pokrovsk.
Last week, Ukrainian forces were forced to withdraw from the mining town of Vuhledar, also in Donetsk, marking one of Russia’s most significant territorial advances in weeks.
