See how beautiful Greenland is but it may soon be lost forever
Greenland is the largest island in the world with 82% of its surface covered with ice, and is also an important place in the world ocean system. Scientists estimate that global sea levels could rise by up to 7m if all of the ice in Greenland melted.
“Greenland affects the whole planet. A billion tons of ice loss here will cause sea levels to rise in Australia, Southeast Asia, the US, Europe” – oceanographer Josh Willis of the US Space Agency (NASA) recently warned.
According to a study by the Danish Meteorological Institute, in July alone, Greenland lost a total of 197 billion tons of ice, the largest amount recorded in history. Especially on August 1 alone, it is estimated that Greenland’s ice has melted 12.5 billion tons, the highest number in nearly 100 years.
With this development, in the not too distant future, Greenland with its towering ice mountains and immense “ice carpets” will no longer exist. This means that the beautiful scenes that are unique to this island will also disappear.
Two authors Albert and Violeta Draseikaitė recently shared a set of photos of the unspoiled beauty of Greenland with a warning that if people do not know how to preserve it, if companies keep sending tourists flocking to Greenland… The possibility of this beautiful island being “killed” will not be far away…
