Parmentiera cereifera: Trees up to 10meters tall and germinated stems yield fruit up to 1.5meters

These are not candles to light but a special fruit native to Panama. It is called Parmentiera cereifera, a small tree with shaggy bark of the family Bignoniaceae, usually about 10 meters tall, white flowers, its fruit usually develops in long yellow clusters, the longest has the longest fruit up to 1.5 meters.

When unripe, the candle is green, when ripe, it turns yellow, with many veins floating on the surface of the fruit. From a distance, they look like candles dangling from a tree.

The flesh and seeds of this plant are edible, contain a lot of water and have a sweet aroma. Many people say that the flavor of the candle is a combination of bell pepper and sugar cane, others say that it is sweeter than an apple. Usually it is eaten raw or cooked, sometimes even made into pickles. This is also a food that is very rich in vitamin A, which is very good for the body.
