In an incredible moment captured off the coast of Jupiter, Florida, a diver had a face-to-face encounter with a massive bull shark. The diver, John Moore, a digital photographer and marine life enthusiast, managed to photograph this intimidating animal and share the images online.
“She was an abnormally large female,” Moore remarked. “Very likely pregnant, she had clearly not skipped any meals. She was a very imposing shark, confidently coming right up to me during our dive.”
Moore later shared these incredible snaps on Instagram, where he regularly posts photos of the sharks he encounters while diving. In one of the photos, he provided a close-up view of the impressive serrated teeth of the large female bull shark.
“Up close and personal inspection of the very impressive serrated teeth of a large female Bull shark,” he wrote. “A fish had grabbed the chunk of bait and run toward me for cover before getting frightened and dropping the piece. This set me up for a shot that’s even too close for my 20mm lens.”
Despite his extensive experience with sharks, this encounter wasn’t the most comfortable for Moore, as bull sharks are not known for being the friendliest of sharks. In fact, this species, along with great white sharks and tiger sharks, is considered one of the most dangerous shark species. These giants can measure up to 11 feet in length and weigh as much as 1,500 pounds.
