Discovering its sea legs? Astounding footage captures a starfish ‘strolling’ along a beach before being gently returned to the ocean.
A fascinating video has been making waves on the internet, showcasing a starfish seemingly walking along a beach. The intriguing sight was captured by Zeb Hallock in Corolla, North Carolina, who was fortunate enough to witness this peculiar phenomenon and document it for the world to see.
In the footage, the starfish utilizes the hundreds of hair-like cilia on its underside to gradually inch along the sandy shore. This unexpected behavior has left viewers astounded and searching for answers. The mesmerizing video was filmed in October 2012, but it recently resurfaced on social media, captivating audiences with its captivating content.
Zeb Hallock shared his experience, saying, “We noticed there were starfish walking around on the sand near the water. Some were in tide pools, but some were just strolling on the sand, very, very, very slowly. The ones that were on the sand, we carefully relocated back to the ocean or a tide pool.” Hallock’s compassion for these unique creatures led him to assist them in finding their way back to their natural habitat. Additionally, other beachgoers were equally fascinated by the abundance of starfish and lent a helping hand in returning the wandering starfish to the water.
The video quickly gained popularity, garnering over four million views on Facebook alone. Viewers were astonished by the starfish’s surprising ability to move in such a manner. One commenter, Tisha Leclerc, exclaimed, “Did not know they have feet!” Michele Peck expressed gratitude, stating, “THANK YOU! Those poor things would have never been able to survive if they hadn’t been helped!”
This extraordinary footage not only captured a unique encounter with a starfish but also shed light on the intriguing and lesser-known abilities of these captivating marine creatures. The video serves as a reminder of the diverse and wondrous world that exists beneath the ocean’s surface, waiting to be explored and understood.
