“Stunned British Fisherman Encounters Ultra-Rare Blue Lobster: One in 2 Million Catch”

A British fisherman was left in awe after coming across an incredibly rare blue lobster during one of his fishing trips. Stuart Brown, a 28-year-old from Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland, described the discovery as “a surprise to everybody.”

The remarkable crustacean was found near Blackhead Lighthouse after being brought up in a pot off the northern shore of the lough. Unfortunately, the lobster was too small to keep, so Brown made the decision to release it back into the water, but not before capturing some photographs.

He stated, “It’s still out in the lough somewhere, swimming about as happy as can be. Hopefully, if someone else does catch it, they’ll return it as well.” Brown’s boat was in deep water at the time of the catch, approximately 15-18 meters below the surface.

Recalling the moment of discovery, he said, “I slid the pot down to the crewman who lifted it out, and he made a comment: ‘That’s very blue.’ I initially didn’t think much of it and replied, ‘Yeah, no problem.’ But then I took another look and thought, ‘That’s too blue.'”

Having been a seasoned fisherman since the age of 11, Brown added, “You would encounter lobsters out there that don’t look normal, perhaps a bit browner or redder, something slightly different about them, but nothing as extreme as this. I searched on Google to see how rare it was, and it turned out to be a one-in-two million chance of catching it.”

As a shareholder in a seafood wholesaler business in County Down, Brown now considers the blue lobster as one of the “weird and wonderful things” he has encountered in the ocean, ticking it off his list of remarkable finds.

Genetic variations can cause certain lobsters to display colors other than the more commonly seen brown or red varieties. These differences in color arise due to variations in protein production rates
